I am a mom of four, the wife of a writer, an English professor, and a woman with dreams for the future. In my early twenties, I was a housewife and stay-at-home mom. I divorced in my late twenties and raised my first two children without much help while I pursued my BA and MA at Sul Ross State University.
During the first six weeks of teaching elementary school in Presidio, TX, I was in a fatal car wreck that changed my life. In my mid-thirties, I fell in love, remarried, and began a new family, believing that in these modern times all aspects of our relationship would be 50/50. Needless to say, starting a new family has been more difficult than either of us anticipated.
Remarrying with teenagers has been quite a challenge. Being a new mom again has interrupted and possibly changed my career plans of becoming a PhD in Creative Writing. My husband and I found ourselves functioning on preset gender roles that neither of us consciously wanted to subscribe to.
